Behind the Campaign
What We Learned Launching a Restaurant Week Without a Marketing Budget

In 2026, we helped launch the Mount Dora Area Restaurant Week, bringing together 27 participating businesses across the local dining community.
The challenge? Building awareness and encouraging participation without a dedicated marketing budget.
The campaign generated more than 2,500 regional RSVPs and demonstrated what coordinated community promotion can accomplish.
Why it matters: Small communities and independent event organizers don't always have the resources for major advertising campaigns. That makes partnerships, positioning, and earned attention especially important.
What worked:
1. Give people a reason to explore. Rather than simply advertising participating restaurants, we positioned Restaurant Week as an opportunity to discover the area's dining scene.
2. Make participating businesses part of the campaign. Each restaurant brought its own customers, audiences, and relationships into the promotional effort.
3. Think beyond your immediate community. Regional outreach helped introduce the event to audiences beyond Mount Dora.
4. Treat publicity as part of the strategy. Earned media and community storytelling helped communicate the event's significance beyond promotional announcements.
5. Keep the message consistent. Coordinated participation gave individual restaurant promotions a recognizable connection to the larger campaign.
The takeaway: Strong event marketing doesn't always begin with a large advertising budget. Sometimes it begins with a clear concept, collaborative partners, and a story that people want to share.
The 2,500-plus RSVPs reflected advance interest, not a verified count of restaurant visits or diners. That distinction matters when evaluating event outcomes.
The bottom line: When individual businesses work together around a compelling idea, the resulting campaign can reach an audience far larger than any one participant could reach alone.
